I went to visit St. Nicks today! And I forgot to bring my camera! Argh. Anyway it was really something to go back, though you can't really feel much of yourself there anymore after six years. But it was good. And I REALLY miss the canteen. Between four of us we probably spent less than 10 bucks in total and we bought like seven plates of food plus drinks. Yum. It's still as good as ever, and almost all the stallholders are the same, even the teh tarik uncle! I want more mee goreng. Sat around talking about the old times, mean teachers, nice teachers, silly crazes, lost memories. Ah. And quite a number of my old teachers were still there. My pri 1 teacher took one look at me and Ning and Mel and she remembered all our names (sort of). She's pretty fantastic. And it was fun to look in the science lab and see our old science teacher still there. I feel very very old. I miss pri school. I don't actually remember studying very much. But then again six years fogs up your memory pretty badly, I must say. And it was cool because I realized this place I kept visiting in my dreams was the corridor outside the gym! My dream state remembered it better than my conscious state, haha. It's like it was left in a dusty corner of my memory that I didn't realize was still there.
Garden State isn't a perfect movie, but it's still an important one. Actually flawed movies are more fun- it's great to sit around arguing how it could have been better. And you actually benefit more from that. It was a pretty good effort on Zach Braff's part anyhow. It's sweet. And the soundtrack does the talking. Do catch it if you get the chance.
Happy 2005, and though this is painfully cliche... Good luck exploring the infinite abyss.
