Saturday- Convocation. Dreadful blisters on my toes due to nasty court shoes. Lunch at Crystal Jade sitting at a round table that made me feel kind of part of an odd but nevertheless functional family. Silly snapshots, scrambling over seats, drips of conversation, fleeing from the rock concert like refugees through the kitchens when the management wouldn't let us leave. Coffee Club, gooey pies. The funny incident of how different someone's past can be from yours, and yet you can somehow cross paths. Meeting seasoned KTV goers that sing at the top of their lungs but after a while singing really badly together can be kind of mysteriously fun. With the exception of *cough* Air Supply. I will miss this lot so.
Monday- First day of school. I find that Stephanie and I share several classes, to my delight. And meet Gillian, who has exactly the same timetable as me, and we click well, and I am grateful for that. There are familiar faces popping up all over the place of people I used to know which isn't terribly surprising considering the number of universities we have. Management Accounting ends 1 hour early. Gillian and I have to take our ill laptops to the PC Clinic on our first friggin' day of school. An international student walks by and stares at my Penny Lane wallpaper, and gives me a hairy-eyeballed look. [I'll take that as a compliment.] Getting schoolbooks is robbing us blind.
Tuesday- Taking Econs all over again. It is truly like remedial class. But thank God! One module with no projects. Have a 5 hour break, most of it spent in the spanking new library. It's really funny how only the SMU students are online. And a lot of them are chatting to each other online from their various positions in the library on their laptops. [Gillian was MSNing her friend who were sitting a few tables away! And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, displays the dismal state of youth communication of today.] I used to loathe MSN for being all impersonal, but I really appreciate it now, somehow. We have Analytical Skills and we are asked to come up with the wittiest, meanest insult in groups for our large and bushy-bearded prof. And tell it to his face. I admire how comfortable with himself he must be. Homework due the next day!
Wednesday- Rushing homework. Meet Ning online. Hooray! Gives up attempting to look like a 21 year old. Rush to school. No time to pass up work. Will have to sneak out during Biz Law to do so. Biz Law is boring. Run all the way to the SESS school to pass up work before five, and back to class again. Lesson drags till past seven. Gets antsy. Runs to library after. Can't find my movie buddy due to drastic change in hair colour. Stroll to dinner. And I get my long time wish of Mysterious Skin, and it's pretty darn good; JGL is luminous. They DO NOT CHECK ID AT ALL. Lots of ah peks in the cinema. Damn freaky. We can't stop laughing.
Somehow I am starting to see that whatever particular incident or period happens in this life is really part of a much bigger picture, no matter how horrible it may have been. You wouldn't have learned half as much without it.
I do not forget when people give, and give, without question, without any thought of what they're going to get in return. Thank you.
It's dark and rainy. But the external doesn't bother me quite as much as it used to, not when I'm feeling pleasantly comfortable deep inside. It's up to me to make this last.
