I'm searching high and low for a quote by Gael Garcia Bernal about all the young people in his country being poets or something, and I can't find it. Darn. It was in the newspaper ages ago and I stupidly forgot to take it down. And now it's nowhere to be found because local websites don't seem to see the need for archives. Argh. If someone has any remote idea of how to find it, please TELL ME. Thanks.

Lady Salsa rocks my socks.

The dancing and the band were fan-tas-tic. But the best part was after, when by the sweet matter of fate we managed to catch a glimpse of the performers after, as themselves, just for those brief moments. It's just surreal, Cubans in Singapore. It's so wrong. But it's great. :) And it was just one of those moments when you just think, "That's so beautiful and it's never going to happen again." It was all so simple, seeing some of the performers gathered together outside the theatre in plain clothes, talking to each other in rapid-fire Spanish, standing some metres away from the Stamford Raffles statue. It feels like pigs are flying. I'm so thankful for them for bringing a little piece of Cuba to us, and hopefully they'll gain something from us too. And somehow Eugenio Montejo's poem, La Tierra Giró para Acercarnos (The Earth Turned to Bring Us Closer) in 21 Grams now hits home.

La tierra giró para acercarnos,
giró sobre sí misma y en nosotros,
hasta juntarnos por fin en este sueño.

The earth turned to bring us closer,
it spun on itself and within us,
and finally joined us together in this dream.

There is some beauty in the world. Take a snapshot of it, put it in your pocket, and hold it tight.

This is pretty backdated, 'cos my comp's been pretty screwy lately too. I'm so lazy to blog nowadays. Anyhow.

The bud has turned into four lovely lilies.

My mum said they only bloom once a year or something.

It takes a laugh at its predecessor.

I'm going to continue drooling over Diego at the BAFTAs right now. [Even though all he did was sit there in his best friend's shadow and smile a lot]

Went to see Constantine with the S13 gals. It's overall a pretty fun movie, mainly because I liked the ending, and a good ending can make any movie seem good. I mean Keanu Reeves growling, "My name is Constantinnee." makes one want to whup him around the head with a severed leg. He talks in a monotone. I'm relieved the director didn't ask him to cry or get mad or something, because it would just make everyone laugh. Oh, and what's with the six-pack? It's like he ripped open his shirt and there was a collective sigh in the audience. And I was thinking: He's so cheap. Is he reduced to that because he can't act? Let us start nasty rumours about his six-pack being computer generated. HAHA. I'm merely joking. So sue me. I don't even hate Keanu. It's just fun to make mean jokes about him. And it's really funny 'cos the latest First mag which features said person has some anti-smoking pamphlet in it. "Don't be like Britney or Scarlett or Lindsay." an article preaches. Like they're that influential, ha. I think any sensible teenager can see for herself that smoking is unhealthy, and aren't going to run out and become a chimney just because, of all people, Lindsay Lohan is. Sheesh.

And there's still Sideways and Ray and Closer! YaY.

My aunt gave my mum a pot of red lilies for the New Year. It had two plants in it, one of them in full bloom, and the other still a bud. My mum said that she aims to care for the bud until it, too, managed to become a flower. The one in bloom didn't need much help, already being so beautiful. But if she really managed to help the bud become a flower too, now that would be a true success.

There are more stars in the sky than usual tonight. We grabbed the camera and attempted to capture it, but it was too dark to be seen. We'll have to use our own memories for once, then.

HAPPY CNY!

We drove out to the desert just to lie down beneath this bowl of stars.

I'm falling asleep yet again. Quite a number of people have taken leave. I'm currently using the cubicle of a China colleague as he has gone home for the New Year, and also because my assigned comp is so ancient it doesn't even have Microsoft Excel.
If I hear that *&#*@(%^$! Ryan Cabera song again (I hope I spelled it wrong.), I'm going to start throwing things. I've been at this job for close to four weeks, and the radio is switched on for the whole day. And they have played "True" Every. Single. Friggin. Day. From the day I started the job. That makes it 20 times, not counting the many times I heard it before the job. AND on MTV. AND the fact that they played it more than once on certain days. And I do not like that song to begin with. It makes me queasy. Cabera, please take your blond highlights and whine someplace else.

I was interrupted by an Annoying Woman who asked why I was using the Internet. "You don't need to use the Internet for what I told you to do." Um, yup. I knew that.
I have a dreadful habit of disliking people way too easily.

-----------

Finding Neverland was a slight disappointment, but Johnny still did his best I must say. Lost in Translation okay, although Ning raved about it much more than I did. Down With Love was pretty awful, and it's really sad that Ewan McGregor does a Southern accent much better than his own Scottish tongue. It's like he's been away from home for way too long.

A Lyrical Protest.

The remedy is the experience.
This is a dangerous liaison
I say the comedy is that it's serious.
This is a strange enough new play on words
I say the tragedy is how you're gonna spend
The rest of your nights with the light on
So shine the light on all of your friends
When it all amounts to nothing in the end.

When I fall in love
I'll take my time
There's no need to hurry when I'm making up my mind
You can turn off the sun but I'm still gonna shine and I'll tell you why

I won't worry my life away.

I won't and I won't and I won't.

-- Jason Mraz

I remember putting using the line "I say the tragedy...with the lights on" as a sort of header for my very first blog skin in mid 2003, pretty much forgot about the song [due to severe overplay, though this time it was deserved] and just now me and my sis dug out a couple of songs we grew up listening to, and when I heard this song again I realized how it always stays relevant, no matter your mood or level of maturity. They say Garden State is the movie that defines our generation, I say this is the song that defines it.

I'm tired.
Goodnight.
